Just a suggestion (no kids in this house...), but would it help to drop a gentle reminder that people without qualifications generally don't earn that much? (Cue lots of exceptions that prove the rule in the next few postings - but we are trying to help the OP get through to offspring here, not the opposite!)
Apart from footballers, pop stars and that stupid trout Jade (who is not so much famous as known), money doesn't usually flow to the unqualified. There are some good stats in the Grauniad every Saturday in the Jobs section, showing how much people in a certain sector get on entry, after five years and after 10 years.
I know that kids think £200 a week for flipping burgers would be a fortune, but would it help to show professionals' salaries and the prices of nice homes near you, new cars, pricey restaurants and leisure equipment? Alternatively, why not visit the thread on GPs' salaries?!?!!Mortgage at outset (May 2004): £80,000
