Hi all,
Just about to move house so i rang BT to switch my number to the new house. The told me i would be tied in for 12 months, so i put the stoppers on. Once i get my number moved to the new house i intended to take Sky line rental and have my tv phone and broadband all in one place.
The lady informed me that i am currently tied in until March 2010. I queried this, as i have been with BT for 2 years now, so i shouldnt be anymore.
Turns out when i called back in March they tied me in. So here's what happened in march:
I called BT because i had received a flyer saying that evening and weekends package was now included for free, and i was currently paying a couple of quid for this service. The gentleman informed me that i had to be tied in for 12 months if i took this option for free. I said no thankyou because i was due to move house at some point in the summer (and had sky in mind at the new house)
I asked how i could get a cheaper bill as i wasnt really using the home phone anyway. He said the only option without tie-in was to drop down to line rental only, but then i'd have to pay for all calls etc... not a problem for me as i have hundred of mobile minutes so dont need to use house phone.
So as far as i was aware i had simply dropped the extra call plan i was subscribed to, and had not signed up for another 12 months.
I would never ever have agreed to a new tie in contract. If i had wanted to be tied in then i would have taken the free evening and weekend deal. It just doesnt make sense.
The lady i spoke to says i can make a complaint and they will listen to the call from March. Has anyone had any experience of this? How long does it take?
Im moving soon, so i need my line moving. If its going to take months to resolve this then i may as well change my line with BT and be tied in for 12 months more and forget about the (cheaper) sky line rental.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

The disagreement is over a verbal contract. BT say you agreed, you say you didn't.
The answer will be to listen to that call.
Verbal agreements are binding. I'd suggest getting a new line at the new property from someone else and going ahead getting all your services set up, and then you won't be at the mercy of the result of the above nor subject to any delays - you can move ahead right now.
If you're certain you did not agree then nothing to worry about - tell BT ** IN WRITING TO THE LONDON ADDRESS ** the contract *is* cancelled from the date of *your* choosing.0 -
