I have been a regular blood donor since I was 18. It is really an amazing experience -giving your own blood for others who need it. It is interesting to note that not many people give blood regularly.

Is it just the sight of blood you don't like caz, or needles as well?

    Hi Sola,
Let us know how you get on tomorrow won't you?
I've "done my bit" today and asked about blood groups on your behalf. Apparently they let you know by letter what your blood group is as the blood has to go back to the transfusion centre to be "grouped".

I got on fine, thanks :) They're going to test my blood for sickle cell anaemia, but that will come out of my donation. Interestingly I was the only woman in there. They said they'd write to me to confirm my bloodgroup.

Actually there was a bit of a biccie shortage yesterday (alot more donors than usual :j ).
I managed to collar some bourbon creams tho', they're my favourite. They had some rather nice Bronte biscuits on offer, mmmmmmm!

I remarked to my donor carer that I'd noticed they would be working on Easter Monday locally and she said they are obliged to work 3 of the bank holidays a year - I hadn't realised that.

No tea or choccie bickies on offer sadly (I really fancied a cuppa); I got lemon squash and those Tuc cheese sandwich biscuits. They were laughing at me because I had a hot flush in there, so all the fans were going and the windows were cracked open.

The mobile unit comes to my work every 6 months, so I have to figure out another way to donate inbetween. Am I right in thinking I can do it every 3 months?

Oh no, not a power surge! at least you were most likely amongst women :o .

No, it's every once every four months. Shame about the biccies, but maybe next time. I forgot, they encourage first timers to have a cold drink as it rehydrates you quick. The feel-good factor you have afterwards is amazing, isn't it?

Ah - I thought I saw on here that people were donating 4 times a year. No worries.

I felt proud actually - no physical effects whatsoever, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to do something so simple and necessary.
