Foundations

If I have a ground floor flat roof extension that I am considering doubling up on - how do I go about checking if I have suitable foundations?

Also I take it I would need an architect round to put together plans to submit to the council?

Any ideas how much if anything either of these would cost?

Thanks

Your council may have records from when they approved the first extension.

Otherwise you'll have to have have trial pits dug and examined by a structural engineer.

You don't neccessarily have to have an architect design the extension if it isn't big or complicated but it depends on who you know, I suppose. Speaking to builders may get you a recommendation for someone. We are using one of our local council's Building Control officers to do ours as he's just retired.

Cost is unquantifiable really depending on size and complexity. You're best off asking for quotes, but a few hundred pounds certainly. Vague, sorry!
