Hubby and I bother got subprime cards last October..

me
Aquacard start £250 now £450
Vanquis start £250 now £1250

him
Aquacrd start £800 now £1200

We pay them off each month and wondering how long to wait before applying for a "normal " credit card. We did apply after getting these but got a no from each, cannot even remember now who but applied for a few, these applications were all over 6 months ago. We did have defualts which still showed as balances but are now all satisfied although still on credit file.

    Hi doelani

Credit is tight at the moment and probably will be for a while to come.

Do you really really need a credit card?

    Can you define 'normal'?

You seem to be handling the existing cards very well - why change now?

Your situation is somewhat different, isn't it?

The OP and her husband both have defaults on their credit files. Just make sure you avoid those and you'll be fine ;)

    Congratulations on turning things round

I take it you've checked your credit reports with Experian, Equifax and Callcredit to see what's actually on there now. (For help, see page 1 of the *How to obtain credit reports* sticky)

In general a default shows on a credit reference file for 6 years from the date of the default.

Given the defaults, that's hardly surprising, tbh.

From here on, you need to keep a careful record of which firms you've applied to, otherwise you risk making things worse for yourselves by approaching the same lenders twice.

    thanks for replies

I guess we do not really " need " another card, it would be instead of what we have rather than as well as what we have. Although we pay off what we spend each month ( not usually much ) we have been using them to rebuild credit records after IVA.

We have something coming up and may need to use credit card and pay it off over a few months afterwards and would be easier if it was a lower interest rate.

Hopefully will not need it anyay lol

    thanks agan
