Airline insolvency and swine flu double whammy

Hoping someone can advise as hit a brick wall on this. Basically the news is full of swine flu and British Airways financial difficulties, and as a result am getting worried about a trip I have booked for myself and partner to fly with BA to Guatamala and Belize in December.

We have booked with an ATOL registered agent, but I'm looking around for insurance that would provide coverage in the event that a) BA's problems results in flight cancellations or b) swine flu breaks out in either destination and the Foreign Office advises against traveling there. Other than that all other coverage is pretty standard. I've found agents who seems to cover one or other eventualities but not both, so would really appreciate advice/ guidance from someone in the know....

If BA cancels you get money back from them. Pay by CC and if BA goes bust you get money back from CC.

You have found insurance to cover IF Foreign Office advises you not to travel. However I would suggest this is extremely unlikely and your problem will be if YOU think it is unsafe to travel and no one will cover you for that.

Is it any more incredible than the loss of many others or those household names which are now owned by foreign conglomerates?

thanks guys, agree its crazy to think that a name blike Ba is at risk, but then all bets seem to be off at the mo

missile, inclined to agree with u at this stage. having studied about 10 policies there doesn't seem to be anyone willing to cover both and the pandemic outbreak seems to be where we are more exposed to the risk of it occuring.

At the mo it seems like we'd be safer out of the country if we want to avoid swine flu

Some of the "experts" claim you are more at risk with "ordinary" flu than swine flu.

I don't like to add to your concerns, but in my humble opinion you are most at risk of catching any contageous disease with germs circulating in the aeroplane. you are certainly increasing your risk by flying.

I don't know where you get the idea you would be better out of the country? I have no idea how accurate these numbers are, I suspect there will be gross uner-reporting in third world countries. See here > http://www.who.int/csr/don/2009_07_06/en/index.html
Have you looked into the medical treatment facilities available in Guatemala and Belize?
