have a look at sysinfo.org/startuplist.php add the www in front

Or type msconfig into RUN and turn off some items, or use Startup Inspector http://www.windowsstartup.com/0
-
Click Start > Run, then type in msconfig. This will take you into System Config. From the Startup tab you can deselect the programs that are slowing your PC when starting.0
-
Or download tune up utilities 2009 theres an option amongst all the other great benefits to only run what you want on start up.0

thanks for this - trouble is what can I deselect and what needs to run at startup? There's Acer stuff running, Java, real player - to name but a few - can I just deselect them?Bern :j0 -
untick all of them, lol, you can always put the tick back, you cant really hurt the system how about enlarging the system config window, and taking and pasting a screen shot.
Or download this little beauty http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml and remove the ticks at only 34kb its not going to take a whole lot of space up.
simple to use aswell.0 -
there is a comprehensive list of these things at http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?filter=quicktime
it also rates them as to whether they are essential, optional or can be got rid off.
If you don't want to delete them, use CCleaner to disable them, then you can easily switch them back on if you need them.0 -

Yes. Use StartUpLite (one of the very first reponses). This has a database of programs that are entirely safe to stop loading at startupte audire non possum. musa sapientum fixa est in aure.0 -
