My son has been suspended from X-Box Live ... help!

It might be a blessing in disguise as he's addicted but does anyone know how you can find out what for? he's 13 and I can hear all he says as he shouts and haven't heard anything untoward. I've asked him if he's ever sworn and he said the only thing he'd said was something along the lines of "only p**hs would do that" which I know is unacceptable but it was more in the context of "only soft southern jessies" (his dad's a southerner) rather than anything homophobic. He's told he's suspended until today but still can't get on. Is there any redress - we are after all paying for the X-Box live service. thanks for any advice

Just asked my son as he plays on XBox live, he said has your son wrote anything in his profile which may be offensive as they can suspend you for that as one of his mates got suspended. You could perhaps ring them up and ask.

    HAHAHA

Made me laugh if nothing else :D

Surely if theyve suspended him they said WHY theyve suspended him?

thanks for your replies - glad it amused you! Yes I think he might have used that word in his biog but he's since removed it. I've done a bit of research elsewhere and the usual suspension seems to be 1 day but his has been over a week. I think we'll have to give them a ring as you suggest.

There are quite a lot of reasons your son could be suspended. One of them is if lots of people have filed a complaint against him - normally a clan who took offence from him or what he said. But there are other reasons including having an offensive gamertag - I know several friends who have had apparently 'racist' gamertags and been told to change them. Literally anyone on Xbox live can file a complaint against anyone - I remember one of the options is whether the person 'doesn't understand how to play the game' - a noob in other words!

Ive got zero sympathy im afraid.

I've seen, heard and experienced what unruly kids get up to online, they can ruin the online game experience for everyone else. These include but are not limited to:

    - Shouting, screaming or singing badly, constantly down the microphone.
    - Exploiting, cheating and playing in an unfair manner.
    - Picking on individuals and verbal bullying.
    - Using foul language because they think its clever.
    - Blocking door ways and spawn points in games (so that nobody can move their character around)

I mean.... I don't have time for games much anymore at the age of 30, but when I pay the extortionate amounts of money that some games cost (almost a days wage's in some cases) I don't expect the above sort of behaviour to ruin the experience... It just feels like a waste of money.

It seems a little harsh or draconian, but they've got the right idea, zero tolerence.

The rest I can deal with (usually)

Ive got the patience of a saint, you wouldn't believe the number of youngsters ive guided through various online games (AO, WoW, SWG, AOC, BF2, L4D, etc etc) and spent literally hours teaching them the game.
So new players (or n00bs) I can deal and sympathise with, theyre actually good fun! but disruptive one's.... different story im afraid.

I was server admin on my own "Sven Co-op" server some years ago, this one kid (who had a history of being disruptive) decided to crawl into the space at the top of a lift shalf, causing 16 players to be permanently stuck in the lift, he found this amusing and was laughing down the microphone, I went into "noclip" flew through the walls and beat him to death with my admin crowbar, very satisfying....
I then used the admin mod to remotely bind every key on his keyboard to "say im a childish idiot and have no friends" before kicking and permanently banning him from the server, he'd have had to do a full game reinstall to fix that :)

If only cinemas were as draconian.

I trust you are docking the appropriate sum from the little darling's pocket money until his ban is served? Or are you taking his side over his antisocial behaviour?
