Switching Suppliers - Meter Reading Problem

In May, I switched energy suppliers and supplied my new energy company with meter readings as requested. After nearly 2 months, it would seem that the 2 energy companies are still arguing over the transfer reading for gas. My previous company is arguing that the meter reading is 630 units above the meter reading taken by me today. My new company is content with the start meter reading as they took an actual meter reading reading last week and, with meter readings that I have given them online, they have done a reverse calculation. My old company has said that this matter will go into their disputes team and it could take up to 3 months to resolve. I find this unacceptable for 2 reasons: one, they clearly do not trust me and, two, they are trying to make the process of switching appear to be extremely difficult. I appreciate that the argument is primarily between the 2 energy companies and the difference to me will probably be a few pennies. That said, is this really the way to treat domestic consumers, and is there a Code of Practice to cover this sort of problem?

What's the issue? They old supplier hasn't stopped you from switching.

By putting the matter into dispute then you don't owe anything to the old supplier until they decide the outcome - so thats possibly 3 months interest free credit.

If you don't agree with the outcome in 3 months time, post again :)
