I guess it could be called pointless if what I say doesn't actually happen!

But yes, sometimes folks on here can be a tad rude, can't they? It's kinda interesting that in my thread on the Newcastle 5% bond, viewed by 11,506 people, and taken up by lord knows how many as a result, that just two people said thanks! It doesn't matter at all to me, it was just an interesting observation you know.

    Its 4 now

A big thank you from me - and also from my husband who made decisions based on your thread.
  • If you can't get to yorkshire branch I think the barnsley building society bonds are the same products but online. For some reason yorkshire bs online bonds are different. Have opened for 3 yr barnsley online bond just. Was pretty straight-forward.
It has the other bonds too.

Yorkshire BS & Barnsley BS are part of the same group. The Barnsley BS has gone live with the new bonds, but The Yorkshire BS is lagging a bit it seems.

After chatting with a Yorkshire BS it seems that they will not offer these bonds online, whereas Barnsley BS will. see the details of my chat below:

    .
Please wait while we connect you to an available representative ....

Debbie Hi Steven, I'm Debbie how can I help you today?

steven hi - are you about to launch 3 new bonds?

Debbie Hello Steven, yes in our branch network.

steven 5% ,5.15% and 5.4% - 3, 4 and 5 yearsDebbie Just give me a moment and I will check the rates for you ....

    steven thanks

steven I note that Barnsley BS have these bonds online. Is YBS not going to offer them online?

Debbie Correct. At present the bonds will only be available online via the Barnsley website and will not be available on the YBS website.

Debbie Is there anything else I can help you with?

steven ah ok Debbie - I wonder why not online with YBS?

Debbie I'm not sure what the reason is if I'm honest.

steven ok but will they be available with YBS at a branch?

Debbie Yes the products you referred to are available in the YBS branch network.

steven ok many thanks for your help Debbie

I have just been onto the YBS website and no mention of these bonds. I would have thought they would have mentioned them on the website even if they are available in branch. This is no problem to me as we have a local branch but just to confirm, are they now available from todays date in branch. I am interested in the three year fixed rate bond? Thank you

    Hi folks,

We're just working on a news story about these and a few other recently launched accounts, and adding them to our MSE site guides.

A new discussion will be posted once the story is up and running but just wanted to let you know that we've seen this.

    Cheers

Just applied for one of the 5 year version on line with Barnsley; ok until verification of ID and then would not go the paperless electronic route, so must supply paper copies of required ID.

I guess that was because it was a joint names application, and my wife like so many others does not have that much on record in her own name!

Still we got customer numbers and an account number so will just have to wait for the usual welcome pack to drop on the mat, before we fund the account.

Nipped into the Y B S branch today and opened a 3 year fixed rate bond phew now I can forget about that one for three years with a nice monthly interest. Decision made, mind sorted, next decision when the Cheshire one matures at Christmas and I start the whole palaver again. Thanks Steve for your info.
