Ah, I see, thanks for clearing that up
Don't use ebay a lot but that rule seems it will put a lot of sellers in a !!!!py position.
Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.0 -
Hi ive just started selling on ebay also, ive found that the sellers community board is very helpful, but when listing an item there is a postage calculator - you'll need a set of kitchen scales to weigh your items. Also buying postage bags etc is cheaper on the ebay shop rather than post office - also check out wilkinsons and any poundshops you may have in your area for cheap jiffy bags.
be honest with your ads, I just sold a pair of jeans that I only listed as a laugh as i didnt think anyone would by them, they were ripped and alsorts and i said as much but i still sold them!
I start most things at 99p as im only just starting out and just selling a few clothes items that were earmarked for the charity shop. But if you have an item of value wait for a no fee day which they just had and i managed to list a few things of higher value with no insertion fee (still paid a % of the final sale value)
Good luck0 -
MsCrow, of course I'm not saying 'copy another sellers text'. If you read what I said I said to edit it to your sale. Meaning, change what they've put to suit your sale, in short there's is used as a guideline.
I also said to raise P+P only a little, by this I meant £1 at most.
Don't troll me in future it's pointless.
surely you could use your brain and write your own one? as previously mentioned, even changing it a little is copyright infringement.
raising the p+p to gain profit is counted as fee avoidance.
and i'd google the definition of trolling if you think that's it.Undergrad law student. Take my advice with a pinch of salt! :rotfl:0 -
What's 'trolling'? I've seen it used before, but don't actually know what it means!
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or collaborative content community with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.Application of the term troll is highly subjective. Some readers may characterize a post as trolling, while others may regard the same post as a legitimate contribution to the discussion, even if controversial. The term is often used as an ad hominem strategy to discredit an opposing position by attacking its proponent.
Thank you, wikipedia. I hope this answers your query.0 -
I read on here once that someone said that ANYTHING will sell on eBay eventually, so I've started a huge de-clutter and am listing everything with a 99p auction, 10 day listing and one photo for free listings, to automatically re-start if not sold.
Too early to know the results, but the way I look at it, if it doesn't sell I've not lost anything and if it does, I still get 90% of the sale fee anyway, and some more space in the house!
I weigh stuff and use the postage calculator, and just round up the postage to cover the cost of packaging (which I don't weigh), but it's still cheaper than most listings for similar items. I just wish it wasn't so time-consuming!
Let's face it, if only one person wants it (and it therefore sells for 99p),
1) you might have made that person very happy,
2) it probably wasn't worth much more than that anyway and
3) that's one more thing that's been re-cycled rather than encouraging mass consumerism
The challenge for me is to think "I don't want it so it's not worth anything to me and it's just taking up space" rather than remembering how much I paid originally or how hard it was to afford first time round.
Hope this helps.0 -

That's a great way to look at it! :T0 -
I am doing exactly the same as you, only I do a 7 day auction and have been listing 10 items each week for the last few weeks. I have had a few items that sold for 99p, but on the whole I have done really well out of it and somethings have really surprised me for what they have sold for .
As you say it does de-clutter the wardrobes of things you are never going to wear, so you might as well get rid of them.0 -
What a good idea to have a target! 10 a week is over 40 in a month - wow!0

My advice as a buyer?
Squeeze as much detail into the title as possible to get the right buyers to check your item. Leave out all adjectives like "nice", "gorgeous" or "beautiful" as they are totally subjective but "perfect condition" (if true) or "clean" are not.
Don't expect one blurry photo with no proper description to sell your item for you. An awful lot of people trying to sell black trousers seem to do this. Also if something has an attractive detail try to not call it that or an embellishment, actually describe what the detail or embellishment is if you can't provide a close-up photo of it as some newer, less experienced sellers appear to think we buyers are psychic.
Put as much detail into the description as you think a blind person who's not familiar with the item might need. That includes all measurements for clothing: sizes vary by a huge amount between manufacturers and I want to know if said trousers above have a waistband, turnups or pockets etcetera.
If an item is used try to give some idea of the true condition. Being laundered a couple of times is a mile away from dozens.
If you use recycled packaging mention it. Some buyers seem to take exception to it for reasons I haven't been able to fathom.
Adding a bit extra to the postage cost to cover your packaging is fair but adding a couple of pounds will get you a negative once your buyer knows the actual postage cost. I've never done this myself but I've seen plenty of complaints about it.
If at all possible have your auctions end in the evening when people are at home so you get the snipers. I am one of those and rarely put advance bids on things I really want badly.
Forget 3-day auctions, they make you look dodgy in a way I can't quite explain.
Saying things like "I wouldn't sell anything I wouldn't buy for myself" is irrelevant and I find it quite annoying. Other people's standards are not necessarily my own!
If there are any flaws whatsoever, mention them with a close-up photo if possible. I've had things arrive with missing buttons which were not obvious from the photo.
Please launder and press all clothing items before packing. Even though I'm going to wash everything anyway, I hate things arriving like they've just been dragged out of the dirty laundry-basket and certainly do not photograph them un-ironed.0
