Haven Hafan y Môr

Has anyone been to Hafan y Môr haven holiday park.. Really fancy a holiday in Wales this year with the kids but as it is such a long way from where we are want to know if it is a good park or not.

Otherwise has anyone got any recomendations for other family friendly places within Wales.

South Wales would be lovely too.

    I went there last summer.
The park is very nice , has a large pool with flumes and an outdoor area. There are several bars and clubs, a boating lake and lots of other things for the kids.
The beach (accessible from the park) is very nice too - its a sheltered cove. Its a large park ( used to be Butlins) so has excellent facilities.
There are lots of privately owned caravans and wooden lodges on the site - so it could be worth searching out if there are any available to rent. This way you may get better accomadation cheaper. The lodges looked especially good - with many having "available to hire" messages in the windows.

The area is very scenic and reminded me of Cornwall ( apart from Pwheli which is a horrible place). But most attractions are outdoor, so you are reliant on good weather. Nearby Abersoch is worth a visit . The beach at llanbedrog is fantastic ( a national trust beach). Remember there is no nearby lively seaside town nearby for entertainment though ( nearest is LLandudno and thats probably 50 miles away).

    I would go back..
  • Depends on what you want for entertainment - Bangor and Caernarfon are nearer than Llandudno.
Portmeirion is near to Pwllheli which was the setting for the tv series 'The Prisoner'.

I am not a number! but being a North Walian I know nothing about South Wales.

Is Bangor nice.. To be honest I don't like all the arcade type of entertainment you tend to get at alot of seaside places. It would be nice for there to have kiddies farms and adventure parks nearby though.
  • There's a kiddie farm On Isle of Anglesey at Brynsiencyn (nearby also is award winning Sea Zoo) about 40 minutes (on a good day!) by car.
Bangor has a theatre, Cinema, Night club, restaurants and a Pier.
Greenwood outside Bangor is good for a park day out.

There's a big festival held in the Faenol in Aug (that's in Bangor) Westlife are there this year plus many other stars.

I would love to see Westlife but it's a little to far to travel ( I'm originally from Anglesey )

  • We've been regular visitors to Hafan y Mor for the last few years with our kids (now 5), taking advantage of their half price weeks.
The site is really clean and well laid out, but we mostly go because we love the area and it's only around 2.5 hours drive for us.

There's a lovely little farm you can visit about 3 miles up the road (towards Criccieth) at Llanystumdwy
and there's a great family day out at Greenwood Forest Park near Bangor
A steam train ride from Waunfawr to Caernarfon is really nice and the castle at Caernarfon is worth a visit, the small town is quite pretty.

But to be honest, if you get good weather, and we generally have, the kids want nothing but the beach. The beaches in the area are varied and lovely - Abersoch, Whistling Sands and Morfa Nefyn are our favourites.

Hope you have a great holiday!

Bit of a dilema. Having looked at the website I have noticed that half board accomodation has no lounge. With 4 kids it is going to be a nightmare in the evening . Can anyone tell me how big the half board appartments are.
