Start of my Natwest reclaim

Today is D Day. I've had the template letters saved on my PC for 4 or 5 weeks and never got around to doing anything about it, but now is the time to cease the procrastination.

I'm pushing forward with stage 1 of operation "give me my money back" via Natwest bank.

To be fair I think I might be pushing the boat out. The loan, bank charges and credit cards in question are from late 99 early '01, and they've been passed on to collection agencies in about '03 ish, so don't know how far I'll get, but here goes.

I've got a PPI letter for my credit card and the request for a list of charges on the credit card and bank account.

On PPI there is a PPI forum and make sure you look on the FOS site TODAY because it has a fantabulosa guide to PPI reclaiming.
With regards to the bank charges then you can reclaim them under financial hardship back to July 2001 however, I suspect it may not be the right route to take.
Keep us updated on your progress.

I will most certainly keep you updated on everything.

I think I may qualify for the financial hardship being as though I'm a victim of the economic crisis, and I no longer have a job. So I have had to resort to claiming jobseekers allowance for the first time in my life. I feel dirty for doing it as well.

You know what I've found as well. When you go into the job centre for your "interview", ha what a joke, they treat you like some sort of lower class citizen. It's so degrading.

Any how I digress. Fingers crossed on the reclaim front.

Been there got the T Shirt(and I was given a few kicks up the backside by friends from the forums on MSN), if you are renting then think housing benefit or local housing allowance. How they treat you is sometimes a matter of how you feel. I had got sacked, and had no idea what the future would bring. Staying positive is the best advice and looking on every conceivable site/job agency you can for a new job. It took me 4 months so it had its ups and downs.
Anyway, I digress a bit, if you have priority debt arrears(mortgage/rent, council tax, utilities) then you may be able to get the bank to pay back the charges....that guide wasn't from today btw, cos I only read the guide today :o:o:o

Well I have a couple of updates on my position.

1st) I had an interview with British Gas on Friday just gone in Manchester, for a CSA. I felt the interview went well, I'm due to hear some time his week if I was successful, so fingers crossed.

2nd) I received 2 letters over the weekend regarding my reclaims. The first one is from RBS in reference to my PPI policy. It's the usual "thanks for letting us know about your concerns. We are taking your comments very seriously. We have enclosed a leaflet 'What Happens when I make a Complaint' stating the procedures and timescales for the invesigation. When we have completed our investigation we will contact you with our full response. Blah blah blah"

At least I got an answer off them. :j

The next letter is from Natwest, which was regarding my subject access request. It goes, "thank you or your recent letter requesting statements. To protect from fraud we need to verify your identity before your request can be completed and your payment processed.

Please go to your nearest branch with the £5 fee and ID for"

So it looks like I'll be off to Natwest tomorrow with a £5 cheque.

I am very surprised to receive these letters seeing as though my debts and the accounts in question are dating back to 1999-2001/2, and were forwarded to a collection agency over 6 years ago.

Fingers and toes crossed for you. If it's a yes excellent news and if its a no, ask for feedback on the interview(it could prove invaluable).

That is copy statements, and you want a subject access request which is £10. If you go to NatWest then it has to be from 27th July 2001

On the bank charges bit it is only back to 27th July 2001. PPI has no such limitation.

    Cheers Natweststaffmember

I'm gonna carry with them and see what happens. I did ask for a list of charges from Natwest, so them saying they are going to sort out a list of statements is not what I asked for.

So I'll see about sorting that out.

If Natwest won't give me a list of charges, and only a list of statements, it looks like I will have to go through the statements myself and tot up all the charges.

That is very easy peasy cos I can link you to a beautiful charges guide on Legal Beagles that I personally did(I need to update it for 2009 but most of the stuff is there :D )
