He was referring to a drain-off which should be installed at the lowest point. This isn't always possible.

So, was it the original plumber you were complaining about who installed the central heating as well, or was this someone else?

The original installers were a central heating firm who did a good job. (In fact the WB bloke who came out to service the boiler at that time commented on how neatly done the pipework was. :)) The only reason I didn't go back to them to get the boiler moved was because although they were good at the work done, the service and admin side afterwards was awful and it was always a struggle to get them to deal with anything, especially paperwork related. I very nearly lost out on a promotional cashback offer simply because it took them 6 months of regular phone calls from me before I finally got the required form for example. I felt that they'd had their big bucks from me for the installation and weren't too fussed about customer service after that and I didn't like being put in the position of having to hassle them just to get something simple done.

It was the plumber who moved the boiler and rerouted pipework, both to the boiler and certain rads.

Just had new plumbers out to go over everything that needs done. Showed them the boiler pipework and they weren't very admiring of it to say the least.

They asked who it was that did it and it turns out that they have heard several horror stories recently about the same bloke. It seems there are a quite a number of people who have had problems with his work. He apparently has a reputation amongst other tradesmen now. I honestly don't know how he's still in business. When all this first started I didn't tell people his name as I didn't want to bad mouth him but I now think people should be warned just what a shoddy job he actually does these days. I only wish someone had warned me.

Anyway, new plumbers are going to re-do all his botched efforts, flush out the boiler etc and also install my new bathroom but they are so busy I'll need to wait a while. I don't mind waiting as I feel confident they will do a good job based on their previous work and also their input/suggestions on what I need done now. It's annoying that I'm having to pay twice to get the same work done but that's life I suppose.
