Two landline contracts for the same flat - nightmare :(

Hi,

I recently moved flats and my wife called BT to ask them to close our land line and open a new one in our new flat.
At the same time, I asked Virgin Media to provide me with a landline to the new flat in addition to their tv/bband/tel package.

Today, all my calls are routed by Virgin media and not by BT.

I recently received a BT bill for the landnline rental. When i called, they said that after listening to previous recorded calls, it turns out that my wife called. She was made aware that it would result in a 12 months contract.

I told the BT lady a couple of things:
1 - I don't get any service from BT since all calls are routed via Virgin.
2 - My wife is not the account holder (even if she was able to give the password). The invoice and the 'contract' is on my name.

BT does not want to move and ask me to continue to pay for the line rental.

Do you think that there is anything I can do? Any help would be very much appreciated.

If your calls are routed via Virgin Media (Non Cable) AKA Virgin National you still need a BT Line to deliver the service.

If your actually a Virgin Media (Cable) customer they would not have taken over the BT Line as they operate on two completely different networks.

If thats the case you must still have BT Line and would have to pay rental on it to you cancel, plus a hefty cancellation charge.

Are you sure your line is not with BT, even if your calls are routed via Virgin? I ask because where I work we have BT lines, but our calls are routed via a third party...
  • Thanks for your replies. Yes i have virgin with Cable. So I suppose there is nothing I can do and I have to pay both lines for 12 months? :(
