I don't see a problem with steaming and freezing it. You can buy ready frozen spinach, so it should be fine

    Hi Zziggi,

That's what I do when I see spinach reduced. It freezes well and can be cooked from frozen.

Pink-winged, would you cook it, then freeze it, or freeze it raw then cook it?? What's it like when you use it after, best for soups and stuff when it doesn't need to look like spinach or fine for everything?

I don't know about pink-winged but I freeze it raw and then usually use it in soup or pasta dishes. If the pack hasn't been too squashed it should be alright for general use too.

    Hi Cazza,

I cook it (wash it, pop it into a pan and add a knob of butter, put the lid on and give it a few minutes) Once cool.......freeze it in portion sizes so that you can lift out just as much as you need.

When I want to use it I find it's best cooked from frozen and can either be used on its own or added into other recipes.

Edit: I've just read your post HariboJunkie and I'm going to try freezing it raw to see how it turns out.

about the only thing that seems to have grown at my new alottment is spinach! god only knows why I planted so much of it but there are heaps!! There is only so much spinach I can eat at once and as there is only me to eat it am not getting through it very fast.

In the past I have bought frozen creamed spinach which came in little ice cream type scoops which I used I defrost a coupel at a time. any ideas on how I may do this? or anything else to use it use and freeze? thanks! from popeye!

You're in luck, Spinach freezes beautifully, creamed or otherwise. It's best if you just chop the spinach and then freeze it in bags enough to make one portion each, but if you want to freeze creamed spinach, just do so in a tupperware box. they use those fancy machines to make the balls of creamed spinach, and it's basically where they have scooped off bits of frozen creamed spinach, ice cream style and stuck the individual scoops in a bag together. Don't worry about how you freeze it, it will taste just the same.
