in Credit cards
I have just spent 20 minutes on the phone to HSBC trying to double check when my 0% deal ends.
There is no information on my statements. When I called, the guy I spoke to assumed it was a 6 month deal, I queried this beleiving it to be 9 months so he adjusted the date.
I said I didnt want to be rude but it sounded like he was just guessing. We went round in circles the end result being HSBC cannot give me a date. He said I could call back or go into a branch but they all have the same system which doesnt hold that information.
I challenged him that the information must be there somewhere because when the rate runs out it will issue the statement at standard APR, he agreed this would happen but said no 'humain being' had access to that information as it was automatic.
I have done this with other credit cards and positive the information was available. It doesnt make a great deal of different to me because I shall now just pay it off in disgust and get another.
Is this standard practice and am I getting upset for no reason?

The HSBC card has 2 x 0% periods.
The Purchases 0% period starts when your account is opened. The balance transfer 0% period starts when your BT is debited to your account (which can be up to 30 days after your account is opened).
This should help to 'narrow it down' for you, but I found the best way is to send them a secure message from the online area - you'll then have something in writing.0 -
Do you not have a copy of your agreement which you were advised to keep? This tells you the length of your promotional period.

Has ANYONE had a favourable HSBC experience? Just from reading this board, I would never apply for one.0

Hiya Boss, I have almost given up hope and discouraged all the posts about HSBC but I've listen to some of the positive ones and didn't apply online and guess what I went to our local branch last friday and was approved and card arrived today by post.I've transfered the full credit limit with no handling fee. They will start charging BT fees starting 1st of May.Amazing stuff and no complaints at all. Good luck you've got few weeks to apply.Hope this helps.

I have just moved to Hong Kong and my experience with them has been superb.
Went into a branch (busy) yesterday at lunchtime, got seen immediately and said I wanted to open an account. Within 40 minutes, I had my card, chequebook, had depoisted cash, had been shown how to log on for the internet banking, telephone banking, and how to use the ATM. Also given the business card of the chap who served me who will now be my personal banker. He advised me not to get a credit card until after Easter because they will have more special offers on.
It really is a completely different experiece to what you get in the UK (and I was with Natwest Primeline who are pretty good).
The only difference is that if you have less than 750 pounds in your account, you have to pay 6 pounds a month. It is well worth it though.
Why can't Britain be the same?0 -

Boss I've had a great experience with HSBC, they give in a credit card (6 month 0% deal) with a £1800 limit, and I have 3 DEFAULTS!!!
Great Service, and was very polite service. I applied in Branch and never recieved any bullying tactics to buy PPI or card protection!!
They even made me a hot chocolate while I was waiting. And the card arrived 4 working days later!! :T :T :T0 -
Sorry, I didnt realise there was a HSBC 'thing' going on.
Thanks Sicker and YB, its just 0% on purchases, I do have the details at home, I was at work when I made the call and would also expect them to have the information.
With regards to the positive experiences others have had, I agree that when you are applying and they want your business they are a pleasure to deal with. I can only speak from my experience, but as soon as you are a customer and want help or information from them its not forthcoming. I hope its different for you.
Thanks again0
