Where to stay in Rome

Hi I have just booked some cheap return flights to Rome (Ciampino) for our anniversary in March next year we are just going overnight but want to know a place to stay, has anyone been there that could recommend somewhere to two people for one night that isn't very expensive. I know there are websites but a personal recommendation would be better.

Also does anyone know how far the main part of Rome is from the airport.

Thank you

Terravision do a bus for 4 Euro single from Ciampino into the Termini (central rail station). It takes about an hour but varies depending on traffic. From there you can use the metro to get most places in Central Rome. There are a few threads on here already regarding hotels if you do a search - I posted on one recently saying the area near the Termini gets bad reviews but I stayed there for a night recently with no problems (in the Aphrodite Hotel). Also handy for the bus back to the airport the next day (almost right outside the door)

Rome hotels are not cheap.i have stayed at one near the Termini railway station too-domus praetoria,,that was ok,but I think there are poorer and better parts of Termini area and go for that area for cheaper prices, but check out the hotel on tripadviser and noisyness rating with venere.I usually book through quidco with Expedia.Expedia also had a recommend afriend offer on for expedia (search the site)
