Yeah and you essentially give them your life and soul for it. I researched this when looking at graduate careers, yes, the money is great blah blah, but you will be woken up in the middle of the night if there is a problem, 80-100 hour weeks are not uncommon, you spend most of your time driving said Audi A4 between stores- when you calculate the hourly rate, 40k really isn't that great.
I hear there is a very high dropout rate and that's no surprise to me.0 -

what role is it for,
if for a general assitant then they will contact you and ask you along for interview if they like what they see and they may want passport etc, my interview for them was easy, if asked what hours you can work make yourself as flexible as possible0 -
Aldi is an employer that demands a lot from its staff. It runs its stores on a budget - no point of sale displays, all on pallets etc - and this budget runs through to the staffing levels too. There is always a shortage of staff in the branches so the Area Manager can save money from his budget and make his business more profitable.
You get a salary that looks very good, a nice car and a position of power from an early age - they recruit graduates etc though they are extremely picky and their recruitment process is very stringent. You will, however, spend your life in the car (at least its nice) travelling between stores that are understaffed so you can help out your branch managers with the workload.
It is also not uncommon for you to be contacted at all hours to go to a store in trouble for instance - I read a story when I was searching for a graduate job where an area manager was called on his mobile (which you are unable to turn off) to attend a store that had suffered a break in. This store was about 60 miles from his home and not even in his area of stores. He arrived when the glass was finishing being fitted by the emergency glazier, spent the night in his car and drove to his own stores for a full day of work.
Lidl is another employer in the same ilk. I worked for a company that provided temporary company cars for their new starters on the area manager scheme. Every few months about 10-15 would go out and within about 2 months there would be 3/4 of them back as the employees had left already.
If you get on with the ethics of the company and they way it works its staff then it could be great to work for. It would mean 80-100 hour weeks regulalry, rarely seeing family etc and burn out unless you are pretty hard core.
I don't want to put anyone off working for Aldi (or Lidl) but best you go in with your eyes open!0 -

they dont though as thats how aldi/lidl and possibly netto all work, they have 4 staff in, 1 covering the tills and the other 3 doing the manual jobs eg clearing the delivery, working through the backstock, ordering new stocks, depending on what day it is someone will be making room in the metal basket displays to store the specials so they can go out last thing before they all go for the day. They try and keep costs to a minimum so thats why they have small amount of staff, they dont pay a cleaner or an outside firm like the big 4 do. I could go into more detail about aldi but i wont as this is the employment section of the forum0
