most things, concepts and ideas are what they are. A fridge for example is a fridge. But it's not a wallet or a sense of purpose. What's your point caller?
Wishface My point is, it really doesnt matter how much hard work a job entails, if you are able to work , then take the job until something better comes along. At least you have got monies coming in. Also last time I looked, my fridge didnt pay any wages, not paid my mortgage. Maybe if yours does, can you share the name of the shop you bought it from, i think most of us on these forums would like to get one!!0 -
Hi I used to work at Aldi, the money was very good, the stores are all fast paced, you are never bored, if theres time you get a break if not you grab a coffee and drink on the go. Promotion is possible but most managers are graduates. I "lost" my job after failing 3 mystery shops 2 of these were while i was training. You are responsible for your float and have to cash it up at the end of a shift. There were also some early starts ie 5.30 for delivery and staff also had to clean all the areas inc toilets etc, but i recently saw an ad instore for housekeeping so maybe thats changed. When i worked there i had to memorise all the prices there were no scanners but that has changed. I left and got a job in a dept store which was much slower paced and less stressful but I dont regret working there, had i had a better manager i would possibly still be there, most of the original staff are still there after 15 years so Aldi cant be that bad to work for. PS I was not self employed that is a myth.If you aren't scared of hard work and a fast pace go for it.0

Are Aldi store managers only for top of the range graduates- or do they also take older, experienced managers with practical 'transferable' skills?0 -
Ive worked there and yes overall it was good, if you have your own car then you could earn even more money in petrol money and more hours. You can be working long hours but it may depend on how many staff work at the store. I fyou want to know anything about aldi PM me and im sure i can answer your questions OP0

I remember seeing an advert for my local one that had a brilliant hourly rate but when i enquired about it it was that high as you had to do your own tax and ni as well as getting an accountant etc.
Might not be the same now but say £8 ph (or whatever it is) isnt much when you still have to pay mr taxman and national insurance and hire an accountant if your not competent with that type of thing,,,,
Hope that helps
Tax and NI comes off your wage like any other job. The self employed thing is a myth0 -
Working on tills (in a different supermarket) can be boring and repetitive, you can't take a breather for even a couple of minutes to e.g. make a coffee or surf the web or nip to the loo like you can with some office jobs. The only respite you get is when there isn't a queue or you are waiting for people to find their money or pack.
I can only speak as a Lidl customer but there they almost demand you have your money ready and just move on to the next customer and don't wait for you to pack. They don't open enough tills so there is a constant queue. I couldn't do that, you'd be working like a robot without a break for even a few seconds.
You can go to the loo but you just need to get another colleague to close you down whilst you nip to the loo or for a drink. You are allowed to pack but only on the bench by the windows ie you dont pack at the till, it slows the person on the till down,0 -

Its the area managers who are graduates. The Store Managers and Assistant Managers aren't graduates and they take people from all backgrounds, not just retail.
