If you are an average or high user of fuel, nPower tariffs tend to be reasonable. But if you are a modest user or if we have a quiet winter and your usage drops they can be expensive.

A similar accusation can be made against many of the suppliers - they target the national average consumption to push themselves up tables but as soon as you veer away from that median costs can vary chaotically.

We're with npower and due to having a wood burning stove fitted
last year our gas consumption has dropped considerably :D I did a comparison on several websites at the weekend to see if they were still the cheapest option based on our last 12 months consumption and they still come out cheapest but on a different tariff. I think it depends on where you live too as all the comparison websites asked for our post code. Anyway, changed to the new tariff online via the npower website and should see a saving of £70 (Gas & Electric) on what we have been paying :D

Sorry, Byb, don't run off, Cardew and I will calm down.

Ebico are trusted. The only reason they are not imitated is that the other suppliers prefer to make their money through obscure obfuscatory tariffs that involve extreme cross subsidies between customers as soon as you veer off the target national average consumption. And unlike Utility Warehouse they do not require you to spend hundreds of pounds (in advance) each and every month on groceries and clothing to receive a competitive price.

Of course there is also a subsidy between customers with Ebico - but it is relatively transparent and (arguably) more reasonably applied and shared. And certainly with your usage (and if you maintain your current usage) it seems a safe bet.

Thanks for the information, it's really appreciated.

I've managed to get npower to agree to change my meter for free in two weeks time, apparently this is due to me having an account with them in my name when I was a student over two and a half years ago. Then I will change over to the Web 15 Tariff which works out at about £1/day for 8kWh/day over the year. (£85 annual charge, 9.324p/kWh)

The gas is much cheaper at Equigas, but they don't give any dual fuel discount. With a £100 discount from npower over the year it turns out slightly cheaper overall. I'm looking at going with the Sign Online 15 deal as it works out cheaper with our usage than the Web 15 tariff, at about 93p/day (£55 annual charge, 3.549p/kWh)

I find it funny that a simple phone call will save me so much money, when I'll be using the exact same energy through the exact same pipes!

The sign online 15 deal is the one I have just switched to. You'd like to think that npower would let you know if there's a better deal for you but I guess that's just wishfull thinking as they obviously want to make as much money as they can!
