Norwich & Norfolk.

I'm thinking of booking a few days staying in Norwich. I know there is the Castle but has anyone any suggestions of things in the city they've really enjoyed also places to eat.

We'll use Norwich as a base so if there are any particular recommemdations of places to visit? A cheap place to hire a boat on the broards for an hour? Or things suitable for a 10 and 7 yr old to do please post them. We'll probably take them into Gt Yarmouth so again I'd appreciate any suggestions.

We went to Norwich for the day May holidays this year and what a lovelly city. My husband and the boys went to the castle while I went shopping. Afterwards we went to Pizza Express which is the the building where the BBC is. The boys loved it as there was plent of entertainment going on outside and they were fascinated at being able to see the BBC live at work. We stayed at Kelling Heath, near Holt. There is also an air museum near to Norwich too which we hope to visit next year when we return.

Cromer is a lovely place to visit, (much nicer than Great Yarmouth in my opinion and not much further from Norwich) crab fishing off the pier there used to keep our children occupied for hours! Just take some cheap meat offcuts (or liver) from the butcher with you as the butchers there charge more. You can buy crablines for 2-3 pounds and take your buckets, spades and fishing nets. It is really great old fashioned fun.

Sheringham is another really old fashioned seaside town and has a lovely steam railway.

Tripadvisor has lots more ideas for things to do and recommendations for places to eat.

Nenen, thanks I like the idea of crab fishing. I've fond memories of doing it in the rain in Aberdovey.

    Hi,
There are loads of lovely beaches near Norwich and the Broads.
There is a place called bewilderwood which is a massive adventure playground which would be good for children your age.
There is Banham Zoo, Dinosaur park, Africa alive, pleasurewood hills.
The Forum is the big library which is going to have activities over the summer and has a pizza express. There are 2 shopping malls in the city centre with food.
I could go on. If you want more info send me a message. I live in Norwich and have 3 kids so have some knowledge.
Hope you have a good holiday .

If you're going to hire a boat, avoid Wroxham at weekends. This is when the new boat hirers get their boats and spent the first few hours merrily losing control and swerving all over the place!

There are so many places to hire a boat from depending on what you are looking for. A consideration to bear in mind is parking which most boat yards will provide free to hirers if they have the room; just don't forget to ask when you phone them.

Oh, another vote for Bewilderwood for that age group too!

Can you get to this by train?? don't mind walking up to 30 minutes from the station to get to where we 're going as long as there is a footpath.

The nearest station is 'Hoveton & Wroxham' which is a 15 minute train journey from Norwich. BeWILDerwood is a 30 minute walk away from there or you can call a local taxi firm to pick you up.
How to get to us by bus
If you want to catch the bus from Norwich Bus Station or Hoveton & Wroxham (outside Roys Department Store), the number 12A takes you right to our door (if you ask nicely!) and it runs approximately every half hour. You can check the bus timetable here.
