    I've known chains where people happily wait for months until their buyers find their own buyers. Our last buyers were relieved when they found a buyer as they hated showing people round, they waited 3 months for their buyers to be proceedable. They lost one house in the process, but didn't seem fazed.

    I had some viewers on mine who put in an offer the first time they saw mine - yet theirs had just gone on the market in the previous week. I said nicely, but firmly, "I can't even consider accepting your offer until you are in a position to buy; when you've sold your house, if mine's still available, we can talk." I did actually also say "... but that offer is way too low even then".

    They continued to view it many times - and make many offers. My answer remained the same.

    Oh, yes, they did get my house in the end... took many months though.
