selling a car on ebay - potentially fraudulent buyer??

If the buyer is doing a full HPI check, they will need the V5 document number to ensure the car is straight and legit, but will also need details to arrange the export.
Standard practice, and as mentioned above, with the exchange rate being the way it is, it is cheaper for Europeans to buy cars from the UK and export them back home. Car dealers in the South East have been taking a lot of requests for left hand drive cars for this reason.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
Thanks for your help basilseal. The only problem we had was with sending him the docs before he had paid us, however he will now pay upfront so we are happy to do this. I think he is in Poland at the moment and will come over and export the car. He is now the one taking the risk, but we're decent people and won't rip him off.
No problem Jaxster, hope the sale goes through well for you.0 -
The buyer ended up paying cash on collection and has now collected the car. Thanks again for your replies.£2008 in 2008 #113!

Hi there,
We have just sold a car on ebay, the buyer turns out to be from Poland. He is telling us to scan him the reg documents so that he can arrange insurance in Poland. Obviously we won't do that and won;t give him any docs until he has paid for the car. He has now proposed that we scan and send him the document now and he pays half now and half on collection. We're not willing to do that either so can we refuse to continue wasting time with him and offer it to the next highest bidder (and how does that work?). He says he needs the registration doc to buy insurance, but as the car has no MOT he wont be able to drive it anyway? Or am I missing something?
Would welcome any advice, thanks.
I actually sold a moped to a guy in poland last year. The polish guy bid and bought and a friend from london travelled up to collect it and paid in full. Supposedly they cant get older vehicles over there so they import them and a car that we may think is worth £1000 is worth about £5000 over there so they make a profit on it after import.
Personally i'd ask him how he intends to pay and collect as a car should only ever be paid cash0
