Basically my daughter started a new school late in term,
her school does activity week this week where you can
choose climbin, theme parks, football, holiday ect
But as she started late in term got left with the leftover
Which was crafts, which i thought, ok shes a good drawer,
im sure there do glass painted, maybe tshirt printing, lots of things.
Oh no, she came back on monday and had been knitting all day!!
not happy bunny, so i said look, prob one off ur do summit diff today,
oh no, knitting again ALL DAY !!!!!!
i agree with my daughter what the hell is that all about,
whatsd the point, its stupid, im speechless
They got boys doing it too!!
Anyway the flies are dropping and tbh I dont see the point in her
going into school and knitting so gonna keep her off for the rest of
the week.
So when i phone up what do i say to the school?
Cant phone in sick, too obvious and im a !!!! liar.
So what do you think guys,
how do i word it to the wicked witch of the west school secratary?
Thanks

i would just tell them straight that craft is not just knitting and you can manage something a bit more stimulating and educational at home if its going to be knitting for the rest of the week. keep her off if you dont have to take time off work or whatever but if you do then i would send her in to school as a bit of knitting never hurt anyone

you could look on the bright side, if she is learning to knit, one day she could make you a beautiful jumper, learning about the pyramids or world war 2 or whatever they teach her at her age aint gonna keep you warm in the winter lol
try and look on the brightside, atleast she is there and settlng in and getting to know the other kids.[STRIKE]Debt 01.01.2010 = £70,000[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Debt 01.02.2011 = £53,495 [/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Debt 05.05.2011 = £51,959 [/STRIKE]

I'm sorry, but I can't believe you're talking about her school (and members of staff) in this way!
If you're not happy with it, go in and talk to them about it; but please don't then tell your daughter you don't know what the hell it's all about, this undermines the schools authority, especially if you then keep her off school because you don't think what they're doing is a worthwhile activity. This does not send a very positive message to children!0 -
Can you go in with her, ask to see the teacher in charge, ask what they are doing today, and if it's knitting say "OK, she will learn more about crafts if we go home and find something she'd like to do online."Signature removed for peace of mind0

let's put another spin on it. activities week is as much about helping the staff and students to develop better relationships as it is about enriching the pupils' education by offering them the chance to learn new skills or get a taste for something that they might not otherwise have tried. if your daughter is (relatively) new to the school then it's a good opportunity for her to get to know her peers better.
I would not approve of her doing the same activity two days running unless she expressly wished to do so, and I would encourage you to discuss your concerns with the school. I'm sure she can be offered the opportunity to try something new. there could come a time down the line where you would benefit from having the school on your side. Staffrooms are a cut throat environment and you don't want to get the reputation of being a difficult or funny parent (there's been plenty of similar talk over activities week in my staffroom recently).know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
They got boys doing it too!!
And what's wrong with boys knitting? Can't think of the name, but there's a famous knitwear designer, my mum test knitted some of his patterns and they were not simple!
My little brother knitted all of us lovely maxi-scarves when he was 11 or so.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

I bet you a teacher eh!!
Sorry but how can a school show authority when they are getting a bunch of 14/15 year olds doing knitting!!
All i can see is that they have not put any thought into what to give the kids for a week doing crafts.
Im really surprised cus its a damn good school.
The amount of things you could get these kids to do, its not rocket science, ok knitting for one day, i could except, but not two...
She asked them if she could do some school work instead,
but no, got to do knitting.0 -
Oh and I forgot to mention,
crafts is for the naughty kids as well, so you got a few problem kids there too which are not being controlled
Today one politly said fuks this im going and he walked out!!!
Another one went for my daughter with a pair of scissors because
he was bored and thought he would try hair dressing, so not all plain sailing really!!!
But i agree, i will speak to the school tomorrow and sort something out.
Poor sod says she feel like she got cramp in her hands!!!0 -

All i can see is that they have not put any thought into what to give the kids for a week doing crafts.
very few schools can afford to bring in outsiders to run sessions, so the variety they can offer depends on the extra curricular skills and interests of the staff.
the kids know that mr williams pe can do sports. they know that mrs jones music can sing and play piano. i doubt many of them knew that their english teacher is a master at knitting, their science teacher a closet rock climber, the history teacher a graffitti artist, the caretaker an amateur photographer (etc etc). It makes us seem a bit more human to the kids. that improved relationship can make a HUGE difference to their behaviour several weeks down the line on a cold, wet windy day, last lesson after lunch when they're all fed up and dissinterested in what you need to teach them for that exam that's looming on the horizon.
there are many valid reasons for activity week, knitting or no knitting!know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
All our kids do dull stuff the last week of term. Its nothing to get excited about. Suck it up and see how you feel next term when the real learning stuff starts.Cogito ergo sum. Google it you lazy sod !!0
