Father Moore (WILKINSON) is called upon to exorcise Emily (CARPENTER) when medical efforts to cure an apparent psychological condition cease to work. However, when Emily dies during the exorcism, Moore is charged with negligent homicide and calls upon Erin Bruner (LINNEY), a driven young lawyer, to represent him in court. However, Bruner’s own lack of faith is called into question during the trial as she endeavours to get to the bottom of a truly terrifying chain of events. .
