Staff moaning all the time!!

When I had a supervisory position I used to inform my staff members that you either
Come to work, do your job and moan,
or
You come to work, do your job and have a laugh and a joke, you're coming to work anyway so which option are you going to chose?
If anyone genuinely wanted a moan about anything I told them that I expected them to moan to me as I would raise their concerns, anonomously if necessary, to the senior management team. Moaning to their colleagues would never solve the problem.0 -
I would have a quiet word with them one to one and say point it out, they may not realise. Say there constant negative comments are demotivating the team which is not appreciated.0
-
In my experience people moan becuase they dont feel involved in any decision making processes. They are not asked, they are told. Their input or thoughts is not deemed valuable, relevant or wanted.0

How good is your relationship with the manager? Could you ask their advice?
There are some folks who will subtley pick on a person if they think they can get away with it, and carefully avoid picking on anyone they know the can't. Is this what's happening here, and could the manager help guide you right?Favours are returned ... Trust is earned
Reality is an illusion ... don't knock it
There's a fine line between faith and arrogance ... Heaven only knows where the line is
Being like everyone else when it's right, is as important as being different when it's right
The interpretation you're most likely to believe, is the one you most want to believe0 -

I think perhaps they don't respect you enough as their manager, which is why they moan to you and not to the other boss. Perhaps the jokey attitude doesn't help when trying to win their respect. Have you had any proper management training at all?0 -

Put a suggestion box on the wall, where people can put anonymous suggestions on how to improve the department, or at the very least say what's wrong with it.
Send an email to everyone stating what the box is for, and that you welcome all suggestions that would improve the department or highlight and issues, and that all suggestions can be anonymous if the wish.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Ask them how much they would moan if they were on the dole instead.
If they dont shape up, get rid and hire someone who wants to be there.0 -
I agree, manage them up or manage them out....0
