This might sound really pathetic but i just dont know how to cope with the situation.
Im a duty manager quite new to the position and ive found the job role quite difficult at times but recently ive started to enjoy the role abit more and got more confident in my role.
Anyway the problem is everytime the manager is off and im in charge there are 2 members of staff who just moan all day. They moan about how things are done, about any new procedures and because they are both part time always comment that they are so lucky that they only have to work 2 or 3 days because the place is going downhill because alot of staff have left.
I know it sounds stupid but it gets me down, i hate people moaning and im starting to take it abit personally now because they always moan to me and never the manager. They are both really friendly to the manager.
Anyone know how to deal with the situation?

Tell the manager what they are saying.0

Just let it go. There are always people who moan in all walks of life. Just don't get caught up in the 'aint it awful' conversations. Perhaps they are right and in their eyes it is bad. Perhaps they have some practical suggestions to improve things and are willing to action them? Thought as not!!!! Some people will moan but still do a good job. Keep a positive role model and perhaps they might change themselves.
I had a member of staff who wanted to leave because she was moving departments and was anxious about at all. Told her nothing was going to change so she may decide to look for another job or make the best of it.Even to the point where she was to come into work and do her bit but live for her hobby of gardening. She hasn't looked back since and is really enjoying the job and the garden.
One thing is to praise when its needed.People may respond to negative feedback by moaning.

Say something along the lines of they are lucky to be in a job in this economic climate, and there;d be hundreds of people out there happy to do their work!Start Date: 27/11/2010
Padding: Day 42
Target £8000
Amount: £562.230 -
Tell them that you will listen to them if they offer practical and workable solutions to they problems they highlight, otherwise you don't want to know. In other words put up or shut up.0

Good Luck
I am trying to keep positive and not let them bring me down its difficult sometimes though. It just annoys me that they only choose to moan to me, one of the members of staff knows ive been having problems adjusting to my new role and still moans to me.
Just want a bit of support off them.0 -

No. if you don't manage them there are different strategies to use.0

ask them how they think the job can be done better. Let them try, if they fail, then tell them that the way it is being done currently is obviously the best way. If they find a better way then tell them Thankyou.. But there is no point moaning if nothing changes.0
