Always On Broadband for VOIP Adaptor

I am considering hooking up a VOIP telephone adaptor to make use of one or more of my VOIP accounts (Skype; VOIP Cheap; VOIP Buster; Sipgate X-Lite). I am currently connected via an old BT Voyager 100 modem and when I switch off the PC I obviously lose my broadband connection (Nildram).

I have paid no attention to routers or wireless connections and am feeling a bit in the dark.

Am I right in assuming I need a router (I would also like to have wireless as might be getting a laptop for the boss). What set up would be best? What makes are the best (we have some thick walls)?

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Some peopple are saying the Net Gear wirless router not sure the model but its been on this board is best, there are some good reviews,
    I personally have a D-link 604T 54Mb's wireless router,
You are correct in saying you will need on as this is what your Voip telephone connector would plug into then your Voip phone into that,
there are various routers on the market, Just make sure that it comes with built in firewall, having said that most do these days,

    Really the choice is yours

I have been doing my research a bit??!!

Do I want to get a router with VOIP adapter included or a stand alone adapter (I don't want to be tied to single VOIP provider)?

Which netgear one is best and what about some future proofing?

I have seen a few comments suggesting the netgear routers are fragile? What about other makes?

Can I have the PC wired to them and wireless for other laptops etc?

    Soooo many questions...driving me mad!!

There're few all-in-one routers (ADSL modem + voip + 4 port LAN + WLAN) currently available from https://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk .. but mostly, they're quite expensive..

    Draytek 2800VG = £174
    Zyxel Prestige 2602HWL = £153
    and the cheapest
    Billion 7402VGL = £87

All of them couldn't accept skype and I haven't see any standalone ATA that supports skype.

As for me, I've Linksys WRT54GS (£45/from PCWorld - this is broadband WLAN router for NTL/Telewest) + Linksys PAP2-NA (£45/from broadbandbuyer).. currently using voipstunt & sipgate as my providers.

After seeing the PC world deal I bought the Linksys WAG54GS ADSL Gateway/Router and the WUSB54GS-UK USB Network Adaper for £64.99 at PC World today. Don't know what I'm going to do with the USB Adapter.

Now I just need to get the VOIP adapter the Linksys PAP-2 is a possibility but I fancy the Sipura/(Linsys) SPA-2100 which will allow me to keep the PC hooked up as well. The only problem is prices seem way too high just now broadbandbuyer at $0 odd pouns looks the cheapest but they have no stock, most other places are charging an eye watering £80+...!!

Does that sound like a good idea?
