I'm applying for Uni to start this September and have been offered a conditional place (thankfully). But, I have been amazed to find that you can get a bursary for this and a bursary for that and a maintenance grant etc etc. I was just wondering why the Government don't put this money back into the system and make tuition fees free????? Surely more students would go to Uni if they didnt have to pay the extortionate fees? Or am I just missing something? Please someone enlighten me ......

In theory its so that those who can afford it pay and those that can't don't. In reality it doesnt work like this does it?? I'm struggling to fill in my forms cos they've changed the system and I'll be starting my third year so everything's different again. At the same time, my son will be filling in his forms!! Ho Humm~A mind is a terrible thing to waste on housework~0

My wife and have been struggling helping both our daughters fill in and understand these flippen forms, what a nightmare!!
My eldest is NHS so has that to fill out for the NHS course fees part, then another form to claim for the non-means tested part to start he second year at uni for maintenance loan.
The youngest to start her first year, again the non-means tested part.
Unfortunately I earn too much to get any help with the means-tested part, but looking at it, that looks any even bigger nightmare.
You need a degree to fill these forms out and even to understand what you can and cannot claim for.
We have now finished and hope they are correct!!!????
Best of luck to all who are trying fill these stupid forms out.
