why won't my shower cubicle tray drain????

Hello!!
Any advice? When standing in the shower, having a shower the water builds up, till its about an inch in the bottom. It does drain eventually but standing in an inch of water when one has shaved pits&bits isn't exactly hygenic in my eyes!!!
I've tried the usual drain blocking products, they have minimal impact.
Any suggestions??

The drain is most probably blocked with hair and other crud. Get a metal coathanger, twist it up until it is thin enough to go down the drain and pull it all out. Failing that, caustic soda or something. It's most definitely clogged up with crud.

That is probably the problem I'm afraid. Recently had to take apart the plughole in my shower tray and found a horrible build up of hair - mega yuk especially since we haven't been here that long! Was able to clear most of it using gloves. Showing signs of sluggish draining again though so probably something lodged a bit further down. There was a thread about this not very long ago if you do a search. There were various suggestions if I remember rightly.
  • pour half a carton of bicarb and half a bottle of white vinegar down the drain the vinegar will make the bicarb fizz up leave for a couple of hours then rinse through
i use this method on a weekly basis and it does work.

If you're having to do this regularly, I would think you have an underlying problem thats causing it to block so soon.
It might be that the waste pipes are not supported correctly and sag when water goes through them. This would cause a build of of deposits in a short time.

It might be more costs effective to get the problem fixed and save money on chemicals. :money:

Check to see that the waste pipes have the correct fall and that they don't sag anywhere.

Our shower drain is connected to our bath drain so when our shower drains slow we put a bit of water in the bath and let a little out then put something over plug for a second to create a vacuum then let off, do the same again till water flows free from shower tray. IYKWIM. If I can't be bothered with that though I get the shower head off the riser rail and turn shower head onto blast setting and put that right above the drain hole.....this blasts away any blockage.

It could be a problem with the drain not Venting correctly.
Dont put everthing down to blockages
  • I had this problem with my shower, would virtually get to the point of overflowing!

For me wasn't the pipe work upstairs problem was the drain out back. After I stuck my arm down (a nasty smelly job) and pulled out the accrued stuff from the bathroom that had gotten down to the outside drain, ditto from the kitchen and bits of mud and leaves that had been blown in from the Garden it hasd been working like a dream. Would highly recommend checking it out...with a gardening glove on and a couple of carrier bags pulled over the top!!!
