Natwest Direct Debit advice please?

Hi
I am due to pay a DD from my Natwest Step account tomorrow, but I am £11 short in my account. I have no way of getting any money into the account until Thursday, no overdraft facility and it's too late to cancel the DD. Do you think that if I ring Natwest they will pay the DD and allow me to go overdrawn (with no charge) for one day? I know I have done something similar with Nationwide in the past, but I'm not sure whether Natwest will be as reasonable. I have had the account since November last year, and never run into trouble with it yet.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

To be honest, I don't think you have any chance particularly as the Step account is a strictly no overdraft basic account. Can you not cancel the Direct Debit before they close today? I once tried to cancel one on line for another reason but it takes a couple of days to cancel online.

Nothing to stop you trying though.

  • I have a step account and I have phoned Natwest many a time to cancel DD even on the day. You can re-call DD but not SO. It will still come out of your account, and then will go back in the following day and you shouldn't get charged either, make sure you get them to clarify this on the phone though to be sure.

    Hi
Thanks for the advice. All worked out well in the end, as managed to get OH to pop into bank and put some money in yesterday. Felt sick at the thought of bank charges as have worked very hard to remain debt-free/charge-free since bankruptcy in 2006.
    Cheers again!
