Help with scanning written docs that are small enough to email

Hello,

I have an important letter from a 3rd party that I can hand deliver to it's destination, however I need to email copies to other relevant people involved - then I can poss follow up with hard (photo)copies later (the postal strike has led to previous correspondence going missing).

I have scanned the doc on my HP all-in-one and the letter's saved as a tif file - but it's 25.5MB and as I am sending via yahoo mail it's too big. Also the officials receiving the copy in their offices won't necessarily have the software to open an image file. This letter needs to be seen as it is supporting evidence to the letter accompanying it also attached to the email in the form of a word doc.

Any ideas on how I should re-save it please, I am going to have a try myself but really need to try and get this all out today as the previous docs went awol in the postal strike so I am already 2 weeks behind.

Many thanks.

How did you scan it? If you use something like Microsoft Paint you should be able to save it in JPG format instead.

I scanned it againand checked the box to save it as a searchable PDF - it still saved it as a tif but I think I could have used the drop down menu to save as a jpeg - that did give other options (which may have also compressed it). I then clicked to send via email (to myself and it said it would reduce it to medium size 230kb - just trying that to upload and send to myself.

I will also try to save as pdf under jpeg format as it's going to council workers who will commonly use pdf and I am not sure they'll be able to open and read it in jpeg with their software will they?

Thanks I am struggling here as the HP is a nightmare on all sides since I upgraded it - but that's another story.

Tangle Foot thanks for your help - couldn't save PDF as jpeg but saved as a jpeg (with no pdf) at lowest level and reduced file to 5.40mb - it'll attach to my yahoo mail, but will they be able to open it the other end d'you think?

I can barely remember a time when I couldn't view a JPEG image from within a freshly installed operating system. Unless they're using something really obscure they should have no trouble at all.

    Thanks Jaffa LOL

Also thanks to all you folks - the 5 meg got returned anyway due to restrictions on size.

I have resized it by exporting it in picasa and it's now 209 kb - yippee!

For future reference, if you right-click a JPEG image and select Send ToMail Recipient the wizard will usually offer to shrink the file for you.

Hi Tangle foot - yes I did that with it and it said it'd resize for email - but actually didn't attach it and then when I checked the scan folder the image was the same size as the previous one.

I've thankfully emailed the copies now though - just have the hard copy to hand deliver.

    Thanks again.

Your mileage may vary depending on your choice of e-mail client. ;)
