Hi you lovely Welchy (have I spelt that right?) folks!

I have booked a weeks holiday in Tenby (we are in Manchester),, for August at a campsite near Saundersfoot. I won't stay anywhere for longer than a week as I get itchy feet and like to move on.

We have a caravan (shhhh.. don't tell anyone, I know they're a bit naff lol).

I am trying to find a decent site for our second week of the holiday. Not bothered whereabouts in Wales but do like the harbour/beach scene and because we have a teenager we don't want to be too remote if possible. I was thinking about the New Quay area / cardigan bay?? but know sod all about that area and from what I've read so far, it seems very quiet, maybe too quiet.

Any input at all is much appreciated as I really need to get something booked before it's too late!

Deb

Newquay is beautiful, but yes very quiet. Why not go further North, Abersoch is gorgous. If you go to Rhyl / Prestatyn its a bit like a mini blackpool
    Visit beautiful Mid Wales:j

Hello, I managed to book a campsite in Barmouth... I have never been to this area, but the campsite is right next to the beach/promenade and it sounds lovely.

    Thanks for your reply anyway.

Hi again, I'm having second thoughts about Barmouth :o I haven't actually paid for this part of the holiday yet, just preliminary booked. I am now thinking that it might be best to stay in Tenby for the whole 2 weeks (different campsites tho), as everyone I tell about Tenby tell me it's soooo lovely there and that the weather will probably be slightly better than further North.

Dunno what to do.. does anyone know what Barmouth is like and whether I should stick to that?

Oakwood is great and much quieter than all other parks (but also slightly smaller) folly farm is good too esp for younger ones we stayed in a site called Wood-office in Narbeth a while ago Good site and a great location. Tenby and saundersfoot are the jewel in that area and the coast is beautiful as is most of the welsh coast. Barmouth (is it hendry manech)spl if so its a great site good facilities stayed here often. Entrance steep but easy in and owner will look after you. If not Barmouth is a nice welsh seaside town .IMO seen better days but still a beautiful part of the world with stunning scenery nice restraunts . Split the difference and look to Aberaeron weve stayed at Aeron Coast park good location great showers local to beach and local shops little pool . Just past Aberystwyth north is Clarech Bay with some good site my favorite is Glan Y Mor owned by sunbourne Beautiful location on the beach (wild when wet) stunning views indoor pool fairground good showers etc. Head to Caernarfon and look at Coed helen or white tower camp sites . Both good and often returned to sites Dinas Dinlle stunning area all very close to stunning beaches (havent even stated with st davids or abersoc let me know what and where i will give you what i know . been touring wales since the castles built

Aw thanks for your post. Yes it's Hendry Manech the one we're going to in Barmouth. You really know your stuff about wales eh! we went to Abersoch in April and tbh it was the trip there that started our interest in Wales. We had planned to go to Cornwall this summer but no, Wales it is.

Cornwall is truly beautiful but i have found once you are in you dont want to move because of the traffic .Wales even on Aug b/h the area south of porthmadog as far as you like is a good drive without serious traffic problems wether you are dragging your caravan or just touring without Hendre Mynach is a little gem perfect location right next to the beach (it is also next to the railway line) and a small ride on train used to travel up the prom from the town centre think it will still be running if not 15 minutes walk on seafront. Mini bus of a evening used to pick you up take you to a decent boozer which has good food and entertainment and drop you back whenever you like . Believe me when i say the entrance is steep just stay in a low gear and take it easy up and down he Fairbourne railway is a special ride you will never forget absolutly stunning ride across the estuary with views to match some great european train journeys
just google Mawddach estuary... Barmouth is a decent town small enough to walk around twice in a day some decent restraunts serving local fish and meat all the pubs serve food im sure .Some better some cheap. Ice cream on the prom is the law local towns have market days Harlech, Dogelleu, Porthmadog, Cedar Idris Abersoc (there will be a welsh person reading this now fuming with my spelling sorry)any way enjoy your van. Your teenager will find something to moan about but theyll thank you when theyre older enjoy
