Double whammy after accident

Thank you all.
I suppose the answer here is to be aware that the cheapest is not always the best value. I will now bow out and leave you all to your money saving.
Thank you0 -
On the circumstances it certainly sounds like the dog owners were responsible.
It is a difficult moral argument. Do you pursue them and make them stand up to their responsibilities or do you let the matter slip? Difficult one and I don't think we can really judge you either way. As I said earlier, depends on where your moral compass points.
Presumably you have seen the dog owners and their house. Does that support their statement that they have no money. If there was a brand new car on the driveway and a Sky tv dish on the wall I would probably pursue the matter.0 -
They own 2 Akitas and they're skint? Yeah, right.
Sue them. It's not you're fault that they're too stupid to put their dogs on a lead by a busy road. It's nothing to do with having a moral compass.0 -

I would agree. Having dogs like that off the leash next to dual carriageway is total stupidity.0 -
What on earth where they doing letting two dogs run about without a lead by a main road at night???
I would definitely take it further. I can't believe the owners didn't offer to repay you for the vets treatment. I would be angry as well. They should be reported to the RSPCA for neglect. If it was a child that was hit on a carriageway, the parents would have some explaining to do.
This case raises an interesting point - does there exist car insurance which covers you for accidents involving animals? Do all the more expensive policies cover this as standard?0 -
Airhostess - the policy did cover anniebanana but she is out of pocket for her excess and loss of NCD.
All comprehensive motor policies would deal with the matter in this way, as they would for any accident involving an animal.
The NCD would be reinstated if the monies could be recovered from the dog owners - around £2,400 in total I believe (excess and repair costs).0 -
Thanks mattymoo - makes sense now.0

I totally agree. While I sympathize with the dog owners loss, they are ultimately responsible for their pet's actions
I am always amazed at how some people read some posts on these forums and jump to the "conclusion" that so and so is a (lying/cheating/dishonest/immoral) person. Some of the posts above question the OP's "moral character" were (IMO anyway) totally irrelevant to the question being asked.
Moreover, from the OP's last post, I suspect that these forums may have lost another contributor, which, I am sure, is something no one here wants.
(Sorry for the rant, having a bad day and I dislike people jumping to conclusions and judging others)0 -
So you don't think the post you have quoted yourself above is jumping to conclusions then? Just because they own 2 Akita's they are stupid & must be lying about having no money?
If the unwarranted gobby mail i got from the OP is anything to go by then good riddance. Shame she didn't have the guts to say it in public view. Pity the airbag didn't fit in her mouth.
Some people might think you deserved it after what you posted.
Do you have any idea how much Akita's cost? Maybe they stole them or had them given.
Maybe they don't have a household policy that covers third party liabilities. Maybe they don't have any money but I wouldn't just accept their word for it.0 -
OP, do they live far from you? It might be worth a quick trip to their address to see what kind of area it's in, does the house look well cared for etc. which might give an indication as to the kind of people they are and if they are likely to have any money.0
