UK wide postal strike Friday 17th July

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8149463.stm

More than 12,000 postal workers are to strike on Friday (July 17th) in a row over jobs, pay and services, the Communication Workers Union has announced.
The 24-hour strike will affect cities ranging from Edinburgh to Plymouth.
It follows a series of strikes in cities in recent weeks, with workers in London taking part in a three-day strike earlier this month.
The union has accused Royal Mail of cutting the pay of employees and reducing services.

Lazy useless gits! They ought to try doing their jobs properly before moaning about pay..barely a week goes by where my Postie doesn't do something monumentally stupid and idiotic. Just today he left a parcel in my wheelie bin (again!) on bin collection day, I was lucky that a binman noticed and knocked on my door...again I complained and again nothing will be done.

If I was actually making any sales at the moment I might worry

    But I'm not, so I won't

Having said that it would be nice if lots and lots of sales happened on Thursday :rotfl:

The 2 parcels I posted last week when they were on strike have gone missing. What do they do with the mail that isn't delivered when they strike. I have this idea they just put it in a big warehouse soemwhere and forget about it.

Last year (or the year before...?) around 500m items of mail were sent to a sorting centre in Coventry.

I was initially told that mail going into the system would be processed first, but as it happened, during the strike, all mail was diverted to the holding centre and became the backlog. Items posted the day after the strike finished arrived with customers within 2 days. Items posted during the strike were in the backlog for about 3 weeks for me.

I'm not sure if this was the same for everyone, or just because of where I was posting from.

There was similar anecdotal evidence on the Amazon seller boards. In some cases specific days in specific areas could be traced as a problem and there were certainly a few 'bad' days where stuff didn't surface for weeks.

I posted throughout the strike, and I had no major problems at all which is odd for London.

I ummed and ahhed today about whether or not to upgrade my items to 1st class so they had a chance of being there tomorrow before the strike, but decided not to bother. I also forgot to mention about the strike in my dispatch emails, but will probably do that for the ones going tomorrow.

Post office will obviously be open regardless on Friday and I think I will just carry on as normal. What is everyone else doing?
