    And if you don't get any satisfaction with BT, preferably log on to OFTEL. They're the outfit letting BT get away with all kinds of stuff, & they're supposed to be a "watchdog" for phone users!! But it's worth a try to complain, you never know the "worm may turn" when they're inundated with complaints. Robin.
  • I think ther's a reverse phone directory on 192.com.
    Also, beware of phoning back numbers you don't recognise, some scams now charge the caller up to £50 per minute.
  • Try google.  I do that at work when I can't identify a number on our 'phone.
    How do you do that?

    Have just tried it. Open google, and type the number you're looking for into the search box with quotes round. Try it with different spacings: I found "0117 ### ####" and "0117#######"

    If it's a personal number you may not find it but if it's a business pretty good chance you will, I'd say.
