  • talk to a lawyer,no one has the right to casue you distress via the phone, and you could also write to them stating there call are causing you distress, and state you aretaking legal advise, also if you can record the calls, there are many cheap devises out there that can do this, they can attach to the phone,YOU MUST TELL THE CALLER HE IS BEING RECORDED for your future records and ask him does he mind, chances are they are also recording you,ask if the call is recorded and ask for a call ref number,,complainto your phone provider that you are getting harast via you phone, this is illegal and comes with a heavy fine to those who do this, once you have a good list oand recording of all tha calls over a period, please keep a record, date, times etc, then puta complaint into OFCOM,when you starting mentioning OFCOM to them they will change there tune believe me,but dont let them get away with it,there more than likley braking the law on this and they need to be told by ofcom or your phone provider be that BT or what ever...but you alos have to make it clear that you dont want them to call you on your home phone again and only want to deal with them by letter or via a lawyer, beleave me they will dance to your tune, get tough, dont let any one talk down to you on the phone, these people are trained to do this....best of luck and get a phone recorder

however these days they seem to be a bit more on the ball so to speak.a man from sky card rang this morning an was quite threatening to penny.it was on loud speaker an he had a robotic voice an just kept repeating an saying "penny you have promised to pay ,an if not i will be calling you again".in the end i just took the phone from her an put it down.my wife was upset an intimidated.

START RECORDING THE PHONE CALLS NOW.

You do NOT need to tell the other party you are recording the conversation.

This is PERFECTLY LEGAL in this country, and gives you evidence should you need it later.

Harassing a debtor is a CRIMINAL (not civil) offense.

I changed my phone number. It was the best thing I did!

...As long as you didn't pay for the privilege.

Remember: Your phone company has a LEGAL OBLIGATION to take steps to prevent you getting harassing calls.

This does not cost you anything.

Any idea how effective this service is in practice? I know my DCA's try calling from different numbers at different times to try and catch me out. Will they just keep changing numbers so you have to keep adding more to the blacklist?

BT are being a bunch of CHEEKY SODS!

They have a LEGAL OBLIGATION to take steps to prevent harassing calls - YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS.

Glad to see I'm not the only phone unplugger! However as my other half doesn't really know the situation I'm in he thinks there is faults on the line or with the phone and keeps trying to sort them out!

My calls have really slowed now since I wrote letters to the troublesome ones but there are still a few. I've changed my mobile number though and am looking to change landline too - my contract and line rental is all with Sky but am I right in thinking that BT are the powers that be when it comes to changing numbers?
Hi Rainy - I would highly recommend you put your OH in the picture. Don't you think you'd feel better without the massive 'secret'?

best advise i can give is if you dont answer the phone they cant harrass you, they will start sending you letters then instead! Dont take it personally, weve all been there they are a nightmare but try not to get worked up by them just reaasure yourself that i will all be over soon and once youve become bankrupt you can tell them so and that they arent allowed to hassel you and they soon shut up. Please try not to get too stressed it does get easier with time concentrate on your paper work and court date instead - get friends / relatives to call then hang up and call again or 1471 after each call incase its someone you ant to speak to.:o
