The only chasers I get now are Northern Rock...they kept leaving very `firm` sounding voicemails on my mobile.

So I sent a letter updating my situation & advising contact by letter only. So far so good I`ve had....no calls...& no letters either:confused:

Btw...when this all kicked off for me I had to unplug the phone...the calls were relentless!

Glad to see I'm not the only phone unplugger! However as my other half doesn't really know the situation I'm in he thinks there is faults on the line or with the phone and keeps trying to sort them out!

My calls have really slowed now since I wrote letters to the troublesome ones but there are still a few. I've changed my mobile number though and am looking to change landline too - my contract and line rental is all with Sky but am I right in thinking that BT are the powers that be when it comes to changing numbers?

I followed the advice on the consumer action group, and went down the CCA request route. Once the message got through that 1)I would not discuss it over the phone and 2)I knew my rights and wouldn't be bullied they all stopped calling.
Haven't had any calls for a year or so, even tho some still keep writing occasionally.

I changed my phone number. It was the best thing I did!

Me too!:D the relief was immense! and I would recommend it to anyone.

Originally we were unplugging the phone but it's very difficult to do this if you are expecting other calls and you also have to pay to phone everyone back that leaves you a message (friends that is!).

I was also terrified of getting a call when I had someone visiting as nobody knew about our situation and it would have been terribly embarrassing.

It was free to change our number with BT and has helped us to have a fresh start.

or you could tell them to write to you and then you can send them a load of junk mail in the post without a stamp on. Just a thought!!!

Is this legal?? I have been tempted, but...!

We have a number of companies that we owe money to, and although it's a bit of a juggling act sometimes, we are getting there. Most of the companies we (I) owe money to have agreed repayment plans, and on those months where I have trouble paying the full agreed monthly amount, I normally explain to them the situation, and promise it wont happen again, and they reset. I nearly always try to ensure they get some money!

My biggest problem is with HSBC. We originally owed them about £1500, and they refused to accept our offer of paying back. Even though they never agreed, we always put some money into the account, and we are currently £500 overdrawn. They wont agree an overdraft, they wont do anything to help us.

A couple of months ago, I started a new job, and they paid me by cheque in my name. Not having a bank account which is not overdrawn (therefore I wouldnt see the whole month's wage), I decided to put in the only place I could - my HSBC ISA. This had been sitting dormant for a couple of years, and was not told at the time that it would need to be reactivated. I only found out a week later, when I tried to get my money out so that I can pay my creditors.

I kicked up a stink in the branch, and eventually a very nice girl from the branch said that she would be able to sort it out for me. I walked out of there with my money - happy days! Or so I thought.

Since that day, we have received about 5 calls a day on the landline, and another 5 calls a day on both my and my wife's mobile. The bank had transferred my wage from their suspense account to our joint account that we had got down to £500, and took the wage straight out in cash.

Every single day I get relentless number of calls from HSBC. We always say the same thing, that we are paying money in to the account, and we will continue to do so, but they still wont agree it! They just call us and call us and call us.

I have taken some advice from this board, and will be writing them a letter quoting DPA, and requesting that they stop calling me. I have asked them again and again to stop, sometimes calls are literally 2 minutes after the previous!!

I hope that this will be the end to their harrassment.

    Hi Col

Haven't got any great advice I am afraid but just wanted to say hang in there. I had a phone call of your very lovely wife the other day and she was so kind, you have got a gudden there. Anyhow the only thing I would say is don't answer the phone, if you are expecting calls from your family and friends ask them to ring the phone twice and put it down and then call back straight away, you will be safe to answer then. If they don't know about BR tell them you are getting funny phone calls and this is what the police have advised you to do. Hang in there!!

  • Its a nightmare I know, I went through it as well.

I unplugged phone totally. If friends etc wanted to ring they text me first and I'd plug it in lol.
My mobile has a setting where the number goes on automatic reject, it doesnt ring just shows a missed call and dont have voicemail on.
Lasted for a few months till I went bankrupt then after I wrote to them telling them about bankruptcy it took a couple of weeks then stopped.
