Foreign currency on my credit card?

Out of my own stupidity I need to get some cash about 600quid while I am away from home.

I have Natwest One service card with enough cash in to cover the 600

Also Halifax debit card with enough cash to cover it

Also Natwest Visa and Mastercard that are completely clear and could transfer the cash from one of the above cards to cover the 600.

Had a quick look on all the sites named above and see that it would cost me about 23-25quid to get hold of the cash.

If I put 600quid into one of my credit cards (nothng owing on them) would this be a cheaper option than the debit cards? Its not covered on Natwest website (at least i couldnt find it if it is).

Thanks in advance:beer:

If your card allows you to go into credit yeah. should have a Post Office credit card for use abroad as they don't charge the terrible commission on exchange!

I take it you are short on time?

Can you not take some £ sterling and exchange?

Whilst you'll avoid high interest costs, you won't be able to avoid the 3% cash withdrawal fee and the 2.75% loading. That's if they don't block your card or return the cash from whence it came of course.

Info above from their summary box...

  • Thanks for the replies, think i will look into the PO and perhaps the Nationwide cards for next time, but i have already left the UK so too late for this trip.

So it looks like it wouldnt make a bit of difference if it was the Halifax debit card or the Natwest Visa/Mastercard so long as i loaded it up first, if allowed. Its going to cost between 25-30 to get hold of the cash.

    Thanks again
