Redundancy and future

Hi

I am being made redundant and my last day is 28th August. My redundancy pay is only £1k.

My plan is to go to college and do A-Levels then go onto a degree to become a Scene Of Crime Examiner.

My only problem is I have £15k of debt which cost me £500 a month. Plus other monthly bills which I need to pay.

I am also a single parent and live with my mum.

I've had a look into any benefits I would get but none of them seem to pay out if you are a student?! Even though I'm a single parent.

Any advice?!

p.s. wasn't sure which board to put this on!!

Shelley

There seems to be an over supply of CSI's nowadays, I wonder why?

I wanted to be a Crime Scene Examiner before CSI - I don't really watch it as I don't think its realistic half the time.

I have managed to find a college that will let me do A-Levels for free this year. Just need to work out how to pay my bills and debt now!!

Shelley, go and have a chat to Student Services at College. They have specially trained advisors who will help you see what you are entitled to. They may also have a discretionary grant scheme which means that college funds will be set aside to assist students with hardship. The money is set aside specifically to help the college retain good students and meet their own targets so don't feel shy about asking :)
