I'd definitely substitute with SR flour. My banana bread recipe calls for SR flour with a half teaspoon of bicarb, but the bread is pretty dense anyway so I can't see that it would make a lot of difference, quite honestly.
What would cooking and baking be without a bit of experimentation? I think the uncertainty adds to the enjoyment.0 -
Yep go for it0

My banana bread is much lighter and moister with plain flour and bicarb. It has been so dense with sr flour. Lots of stuff you can do with sr flour, but I don't think it works well with everything. Good luck.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Quick question. I was making pastry today. I avoided it for years til i got some trexx and their recipe book, and I have been doing ok.
Today, and last time, my pastry has come together ok, maybe slightly on the dry side, but it did come together, IYKWIM, but after resting in the fridge, and then trying to roll it out, it was breaking up as if it was too dry.
I just made my very first mince and onion plate pie, and I know the pastry will be nice and short, but I had to patch it all up.
Where am I going wrong? I was thinking if I put more water it may be too tough.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Can anyone tell me how on earth to get a fully laden silicone tray of muffin mixture into the oven without it concertinering and slopping the mix everywhere?
Pretty sure I've just ruined my new siliconeStop looking for answers....
The most you can hope for are clues.....:)0 -
You haven't ruined it, don't worry, it'll wash.
The trick is easy........ put it on a baking tray BEFORE you fill it up. That's the easiest way.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
