personally though I love Bara Brith it is a bread and not a cake!
I would make a boiled fruit cake - its light, but moist and spicy. I have a recipe if you would like it - but as others have said there are lots of recipes online!
saying that - I dont like christmas cake anyway! or wedding cake or any heavy cake! I used to love Yule Log as a child............ choc swiss roll, choc icing and sprinkled with icing sugar - whats not to like?0 -
Bara Brith takes minimal effort which is always a plus point in my eyes, but it's not very cake-y if you know what I mean!0

Bara Brith is lovely, but it is not Christmas cake IMO.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

Hi all,
I'm wondering if anybody knows a good online seller of baking supplies? I do a lot of baking and since I can't eat wheat, I end up using more expensive ingredients like ground almonds, pine nuts, and dove's gluten free flour.
If anybody knows where I could get these cheaper than the supermarket, I would appreciate the tip. I'd be happy to buy in larger amounts if bulk buying is required.0 -
:hello:
I need some help.
Recently, my cakes have not been turning out well. At all. Today I made parkin:
Well, that was meant to be for someone else, but I can't give it away looking like that, can I? So I'll have to eat it. That's not a good thing when you're already quite fat.
So, why aren't my cakes rising properly in the middle? It happens with the parkin, it happens with the chocolate yoghurt cakes. However, the last carrot cake I made was perfect.
I figured that if you all asked me questions about how I'm making the cakes (apart from following the recipes!), eventually we should get to the bottom of it.
This is actually the third cake I've cooked to give to my mate for her birthday, and she hasn't seen one yet because they've all looked dreadful. I'm getting through flour and sugar like nobody's business, and it isn't very MSE.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Still looks delicious tho.0

Why can't you give it away looking like that? It looks like it was made with good wishes and precious time to me! I'd receive it gratefully.0
