Advice on dissmissal needed.

Hi, first post here. :) I hope I'm in the right place, this seemed the most appropriate.
Anyway, I need some advice. My girlfriend has been working for a holiday park for the last two months. Earlier today she got a phone call asking her to go in, where they told her that she was dissmissed due to 'moaning'! she thinks it was most likeley due to her moaning about part of her job being boring, and asking if she could swap that part of the work with somebody else that liked it.

Ok so it might not be the best thing to do, but surely its not a matter of dissmissal? Shouldn't she have recived some sort of warning first? They also said she was at the end of her probationary period? I work for the same company in a differn't department and in my contract it states that this period is four weeks, all the contracts appear to be the same. She hasn't found her's yet, so we haven't checked this. But if they were to extend the probationary period wouldn't the have to tell her?

So where does she stand now? Theres nothing in writing and she doesnt know if she has a weeks notice to work or anything? Sorry for all the questions, but i am quite annoyed as this wouldnt be the first time things like this have happened there. :(

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

If it was a 2 month probationary period and she was at the end and they then took the decision not to make her full time there isnt a huge amount she can do.

Probation is there to evaluate the person as references are next to useless these days and too many 100k a year jobs have been won by people on the basis of a good hour of talk but then failed to deliver.

Basically they probably have 30 people wanting that job. So they can pick who they want. Once she is off probation its different.

In an ideal world she would have some feedback during probation but over 8 weeks maybe not.
  • Hi, I'm about 99% sure the probation period is four weeks. where does she stand then?

It wouldn't be so bad, but there was no warning or any kind of feedback. Not to mention nothing in writing. One of the other workers has advised we go to the job center and tell them as no notice has been given. or indeed anything in writing!

If she has not been there for a year then her rights are very limited indeed.
