Proof of ownership...

I had a power cut last week and some of my electrical stuff got damaged.
I called my insurers and they are sending around their people and told me I would need to provide proof of ownership...
2 of my items - my DVD player and TV I have no receipts for them - they must be more than 2 years old...I inherited them from a friend. I cant even remember if I paid him money for them but if I did it was cash....
Does anyone know what my options are?
Apparently you can supply a photograph - which I think is surprising as how are they meant to tell when a photo was taken?

My dad recently had a similar problem and they accepted the instruction manual as proof of ownership, perhaps you could try that?Success' of 2012:-Debts:Student Loans: £28,7580

Just tell them the truth...that they are second hand and that you are not sure how much you paid for them...if anything.0

Why don't you just take pictures of them!?0

Thats funny, if they were bailiffs you would have a hard time convincing them that you didnt own the items0

I'd go with that - ask Customer Services if you can email them photos of the items. Failing that, post them in to them in a really big box.
In the future, if you have any valuable items without receipts, take photos of them in situ - might come in handy with any claims.0
