Help!! Seeking to cancel a holiday booking!!

Hi
On Saturday I booked a one week stay (week from 14th Aug) for me and my wife, 2 kids and parents at White Cross Bay holiday park in the Lake District as the pictures & description looked great. I paid £883 via Mastercard and it is currently showing up as a pending transaction though the holiday company emailed on Saturday confirming the transaction and booking.
I have stumbled across a holiday review website today though and most of the reviews are extremely critical of the holiday park (in terms of cleanliness, lack of functioning basic facilities, nothing like what it is described etc) and I am beginning to think this may be a big mistake and am considering whether to ask Barclaycard to cancel the transaction.
Can I legally do this, and can the holiday company pursue the amount from me (or is there a cooling off period legally allowed without incurring cancellation charges)? If I have to go ahead and it turns out to be a disaster, can we seek recovery of the fees from the company under some section in consumer law?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

You have no right to cancel (unless contractual)
Credit Cards are guarenteed payment methods and you cant ask it be cancelled without cause - you dont have it
You have to go and if the holiday doesnt meet the agreement you may be entitled to use consumer law to seek compensation.0 -
My family and I stayed at White Cross bay in August last year and it was fantastic - very clean and there were more facilities in the caravan than we expected - all in perfect working condition.
I hope that you did go and enjoyed your stay as much as we did - we enjoyed it so much we're off to one of their other parks - Limefitt in July this year. Thanks for reading!0 -
Cancelling because of online reports???
wouldn't you be better calling the holiday company to express your concerns!? it might put your mind at ease. Never know they'll probably bend over backwards and be most thorough to make sure it doesn't happen.|░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░| scratch here to reveal signature

I think with Holiday reports then you need to look at who wrote the review. For example I went to a theme dungeon thing and thought it was completly rubbish and my collegue loved. I loved going to the zoo and they thought it was a waste of time. I have seen holiday reports where people were complaining that the shop in spain did not stock "English" food or tetley t bags. In my opion this would be a good sign. What is fun for one is hell for another.
I don't think you can cancel if you booked in person at a shop so looks like you just have to make the most of it. If you are worried and going by car take your own sheets and cleaning stuff. Yes its a pain to clean when you should not have to but if half an hours work means a week of fun then perhaps its worth it.0 -

I think the point stebiz was making with this post (below) was that the original post was made almost a year ago and the OP was probably going on 14th August 2009, so your advice about not being able to cancel and just making the best of it isn't a lot of use at this point in time.13-07-2009, 5:18 pm
