i had a bad debt on my credit fle that i was unaware of i have cleared it but it still shows up on credit searches how do i get it cleared

it can be marked satisfied if it had a default or had gone to a CCJ, but will stay on your file for 6 years (whatever the status of the debt at the time you paid it). What was the situation with it? Had it been defaulted?
