my eldery mother has just received a letter from BT stating that her 12 month contract with the Unlimited Anytime Plan is coming up for renewal and a new 12 month contract will automatically be set up.

Is this standard BT practice? I would have thought that after the initial 12 month contract the service just carries on after serving your sign up contract.

With a new automated 12 month contract there seems no way of leaving BT if the need ever arises?

It is only £1 per month more for the non-contractual version.

Its a rolling contract and unless you tell BT in good time that you wish to stop it you roll from one year to the next saving £12 a year.
  • Assuming that payment is by Direct Debit and billing is paperless, then the standard Unlimited Anytime Plan is £17.20/month (£11.25 line rental + £5.95). The Renewable Unlimited Anytime Plan on a rolling 12 month contract is £16.20/month (£11.25 line rental + £4.95). BT should write before the end of each 12 month period to advise that it will continue for another 12 months, unless you advise them otherwise.

BT currently have a special offer known as the Renewable Unlimited Anytime Plan Plus on a rolling 12 month contract, which is £15.20/month (£10.25 line rental + £4.95).

If you are happy with a BT rolling 12 month contract and have received a renew advise letter, then you could contact them and request to be transferred to the Renewable Unlimited Anytime Plan Plus and make a further saving of £12 a year.
