Ticketmaster Take Money Without Permission!

Ticketmaster have taken £70.50 from my account without permission.
I didn't realise they could do this but according to Ticketmaster its in their terms and conditions!
Bought tickets to take my 4 & 3 year old to see Scooby Doo in Manchester last week.
The show was great - the kids really enjoyed it my son's favorite was Scooby Doo and my little girls was "that dog"
2 Days before the show Ticketmaster called saying that the show had been cancelled and would i like a refund or to exchange the tickets for another date.
Since we were going to the matinee show i asked to change the tickets to the evening show - picked tickets up from box office
What i didn't realise and nobody told me was that i wasn't exchanging the tickets i was purchasing new tickets and being refunded for the old ones.
Now normally this wouldn't be a problem but i bought the original tickets in a 4 for £20 offer (think it was on MSE) - so ticketmaster refunded me the 4 for £20 and charged me £70.50.
My original purchase price was £30.30 and they have refunded £26 (not sure why they have kept £4.30)
When i spoke to ticketmaster regarding the exchange i sepcifically asked would i be charged anything and the answer was no as they were just exchanging the tickets for a different date/time.
I work out that i am about £44 and a bit out of pocket
According to ticketmaster there is nothing i can do as its in their terms and conditions and i should have read their terms and conditions before saying that i wanted to exchange the tickets for a different date
how i would have known this i do not know
anyone had a similar experience with ticketmaster?

they gave u a refund and u specifically 'asked' for xyz show... it was a higher price. but that was your call, as they didnt offer it, u asked for it...
i think the 4.30 might be the booking/service fee?!
plus u got it on an offer... makes exchanges harder.0 -
This is Ticketshafter we're talking about so it's quite possible the £44.00 is the "booking fee."
I assume it is article 4 of their t&cs they have directed you to. A key line in their t&cs is "Unless indictaed otherwise in relation to a particular event." If they offered you an exchange and specifically said they wouldn't charge you anything more then that sounds like "indication otherwise." Even so, article 4 actually says you will be offered seats up to the original face value. I'm assuming that even if you bought the tickets on a 4 for £20 offer, they still have the full price printed on them (the face value) and not £5. Even if it does the first point holds true.
When you phoned was there a message saying the call would be recorded? Present them with this and if they are still being arsey, ask for a copy of the recording and take it to small claims court.
Then turn up in one of these T-shirts which I wear to any event where I've been forced to buy a ticket from these shysters: http://www.cafepress.com/tbonline.171843780 -
