Retford .. Holiday Planning Tips

Hi. We are camping in Retford at the beginning of August and it would be great if anyone could give suggestions of some great places to go. We have 4 kids aged 10, 8, 5 and 1. We have got Sherwood Forest on the list and cycle hire. We'd like to avoid the major cities if possible. Many thanks Claire

Depending what you like and how far you wish to travel some suggestions are:

Creswell Crags (Ice Age Caves), Nr Worksop.
Clumber Park (National Trust)
Rufford Abby (English Heritage, near Sherwood Forrest)
Gainsborough Old Hall (English Heritage)
Sherwood Forest Farm Park
Wetlands Animal Park (Retford)
Yorkshire Wildlife Park (outskirts of Doncaster)
Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife & Falcony Centre (Just ouside Worksop, off A57)
White Post Farm
Wheelgate Park (children's theme park nr Mansfield)
Weekend car boot sales at Sherwood Forest Farm Park & Oldcotes and a large Sunday market at Thorsby.

And like BenL, I world recommend Sundown Adventure Land (Especially for your 3 youngest).

I think there is a 'Go Ape' at Sherwood Pines which would be great if your older two like that kind of thing.
